Armor Crafting Station Fallout 4

Fallout 4 offers many customization options for armor, including the power armor. Normal armor has 2 different mods to choose from, but vault jumpsuits have one. Power armor is different because you can mod each piece of the armor. You need high-rank Armorer perks for all armor and also Science for vault jumpsuits and power armor.

Dec 12, 2015 Bethesda’s open-world RPGs have been heavily invested in crafting systems for several years now, but Fallout 4 takes the idea to a new level. Every broom, bucket, and battery in the Commonwealth. For Fallout 76 on the PlayStation 4, a GameFAQs message board topic titled 'Power armor crafting station problem'.

I'll go over the types of mods you can use in armor and what you need to make them. Check out my Fallout 4 Weapon Mod Crafting guide if you want info on weapons.

This guide will go over everything about crafting armor and power armor mods including:

  • Armor Mod Crafting Basics - How to craft mods, perks needed, and examples of materials.
  • Advanced Armor Mod Crafting - Each armor category and the mods you can craft for each.

Armor Mod Crafting Basics

You need an armor workbench to mod regular armor and a Power Armor station to mod power armor. Both are found throughout the world, or crafted at your settlement if you have rank 2 Local Leader perk.

Perks

If you want to make the best armor you can, you'll need the right perks.

  • Armorer (Str 3) - Allows you to craft mods for armor.
    • Rank 2 - Level 13
    • Rank 3 - Level 25
    • Rank 4 - Level 39
  • Science (Int 6) - Allows you to craft high-tech mods.
    • Rank 2 - Level 17
    • Rank 3 - Level 28
    • Rank 4 - Level 41

You can also use the Blacksmith perk if you plan on doing melee damage in your power armor.

Materials

Every armor mod needs Adhesive, but the rest depend on the piece. Most pieces of armor use some of the items below.

  • Cloth
  • Fiberglass
  • Steel
  • Screw
  • Aluminum
  • Rubber

Power armor mods usually need extra things like circuitry, nuclear material, and other science materials. Grab anything you come across while exploring, then break it down for materials when you go to a settlement.

Note: If you use an item during crafting instead of breaking it down for materials, you lose any extra materials that the item has that are not used in the recipe.

Advanced Armor Mod Crafting

I'll separate into 2 categories, normal armor and power armor. All normal armor have 2 mod options, vault jumpsuits are different.

Normal Armor

  • Mod 1 - This increases the damage and energy resistance. Some armor give extras like improved stealth on leg armor.
  • Mod 2 - There are a wide range of mods in this section. They involve reduced armor weight, increasing carrying capacity, reducing certain damage, and more.

Vault Jumpsuits

  • Lining - Improves energy and radiation resistance.

Power Armor

All power armor have the same mods for the first 2 slots.

  • Model - Increases damage and energy resistance.
  • Paint - Changes various stats like resistances, or increased S.P.E.C.I.A.L. stats.

Arm

  • Misc Mod - Reduces action point cost, causes unarmed attacks to deal bleeding damage, increases unarmed damage, or add energy damage to unarmed attacks.

Leg

  • Misc Mod - Increases carrying capacity, sprint speed, action point refresh speed, or increase radius for impact landing.

There are many mods for torso and helmet, so I'll list them individually.

Torso

  • Emergency Protocols - When below 20% health, speed increases 25% and incoming damaged reduced by 25%.
  • Motion-Assist Servos - Increases Strength.
  • Kinetic Dynamo - Taking damage recharges Action Points.
  • Tesla Coils - Deals energy damage to nearby enemies.
  • Blood Cleanser - Reduces chance for addiction from drugs.
  • Core Assembly - Increases Action Point refresh speed.
  • Medic Pump - Detects hits in combat and automatically uses a Stimpack when health is low.
  • Reactive Plates - Reflects 50% of melee damage back on attacker.

    Characteristics

The crafting system has been extensively revamped from the one used previously in Fallout: New Vegas. Rather than taking pre-existing items and combining them, the player now relies on 31 resources to manufacture the items they want. Resources are acquired by taking junk items to a workbench and simply manufacturing the desired items. The game automatically breaks down junk and allows for storing unused junk in workshops for later use. While a list of in-game crafting recipes is available from the portal page, there is also a list of crafting recipes drawn directly from the game files.

Initially, weapons and armor cannot be crafted at workbenches, but can be extensively upgraded. However, with the Contraptions Workshopadd-on, certain weapons and armor can be manufactured using the appropriate builder.

All resources (and items) are shared between workbenches and crafting stations within a settlement,[1] and can be shared between settlements by establishing a supply line using the Local Leaderperk.[2] Unassigned settlers will automatically scavenge for resources,[3] and scavenge more when their level of happiness is elevated.[4]

    Station

    Weapons and weapon modifications

In the base game alone, there are over 50 weapons and over 700 individual modifications that can be made at the weapons workbench, including different receivers, sights, barrels, stocks, magazines, grips and muzzles. Melee and unarmed weapons may be modified with different materials as well as attachments that pierce armor or cause bleeding damage.

However, unlike in Fallout: New Vegas, there is no ammunition crafting at first. An ammunition plant from the Contraptions Workshopadd-on is required to craft ammunition, but this is limited to conventional ammunition for firearms only.

    Armor modification

    Power armor being customized

A base layer of clothing can be worn under various armor pieces for the chest, right and left arms, and right and left legs, in addition to headgear. These armor pieces can be modified at any armor workbench to improve overall damage resistance, as well energy and radiation resistances, the armor's weight and visibility, and other miscellaneous bonuses. Additionally, certain clothing items can be modified with the ballistic weave modification, increasing their damage resistance.

    Power armor modification

Furthermore, the helmets, chest pieces, arms and legs of power armor can be mixed and matched at a power armor station to customize the suits appearance, level of protection, weight, and statistic boosts. Additional upgrades can also be added for power armor that grant many other miscellaneous bonuses, such as enhanced unarmed damage, visual and targeting capabilities, sprinting and hauling capabilities, and even a jet pack.

    Cooking

Cooking stations allow the Sole Survivor to create 'home-cooked' meals from the meat gathered from creatures, and plants from the wild or farms. This station also allows the production of vegetable starch, an adhesive.

    Chemistry

    Main article: Chemistry station

Chemistry stations allow the Sole Survivor to create various chemical compounds, medicine, explosives, and syringerammunition. It can also be used to create cutting fluid, a source of oil. In subsequent add-ons, traps, medicinal sludge, fireworks, and other variants of ammunition can be created.

    Settlement

    Main article: Fallout 4 settlements

Not only can one disassemble wasteland junk to find spare parts, but entire structures of a settlement can also be demolished to gain building materials like concrete, rubber, steel and wood in order to create walls, floors, roofs, stairs, and even prefabricated shacks at the workshop to expand a settlement. Within a building, beds, furniture, and containers can be made, in addition to wall decorations (like mounted animals) and various floor coverings. In addition, as time goes on and the settlement becomes more hospitable, people will begin to inhabit the settlement and various trade caravans will come through as traders. With ranks in Local Leader, stores can be erected and supply lines can even be established to connect two or more settlements.

When developing a settlement, a 'town bar' relays information about the town, measuring the number of people, how much food, water and power the town produces, how secure the town is, how many beds there are in town, and the general happiness of the settlement.

The settlement can be expanded by planting plots of crops and tapping into groundwater, as well as creating generators that can be used to power lights and other technologies. Terminals can be made to connect all of the objects on the power grid and control them all from one place. Some defensive technologies are powered by this power grid and are almost mandatory because a majority of settlements will be attacked by raiders, super mutants and Gunners at one time or another. These defenses include guard posts, conventional, laser, and missile turrets, as well as various traps.

Furthermore, every add-on added various elements to the settlement crafting system, such as new furniture or decorations; however, the Wasteland Workshop, Contraptions Workshop, and Vault-Tec Workshop add-ons were specifically geared to expanding workshop mode beyond these basic categories and added new categories of their own.

    Robots

With the Automatronadd-on, the robot workbench allows one to create a myriad of robotic companions using modular parts. The Robotics Expert perk also becomes more useful given that several robotic modifications require more extensive knowledge of automatrons than others.

    Contraptions

    Main article: Contraptions Workshop

With the Contraptions Workshopadd-on various nonessential albeit amusing thingamajigs can be constructed, including ball tracks, armor and weapon racks, firework and firework launchers, and marquee signage.

Armor Crafting Station Fallout 4 Puzzle

However, as discussed previously in this article, various builders can also be constructed to manufacture a wide variety of helpful goods, including weapons, ammunition, explosives, armor, clothing, and food. Conveyor belts can also be made to carry these junk items and resources to these builders.

    Nuka-Cola blends

A background element of the Nuka-Worldadd-on is the ability to mix the nine variants of Nuka-Cola to create special blends that provide unique statistic boosts via the Nuka-Mixer station.

    Behind the scenes

According to Todd Howard, the settlement crafting mechanic was at least partially inspired by the development team playing a lot of Minecraft.[5]
